Bush Hogging Cost Factors
Acreage is only part of a mowing quote. Compare access, growth, excluded ground and repeat visits, then try the budget worksheet with your own quoted rate.

Content updated
The most useful mowing budget starts with mowable acreage, current growth, and access. A per-acre figure cannot explain a site with hidden debris, narrow gates, or difficult terrain.
Separate land area from cutting area
| Input | What to include | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Parcel acres | Total area for orientation | Not all land can or should be cut |
| Exclusions | Woods, buildings, water, protected areas | Reduces the proposed cut area |
| Cutting conditions | Growth, debris, terrain, access | Changes time and equipment |
| Visit plan | First cut or repeat visits | Initial cleanup can be a separate work |
Two ways to quote the same work
A provider may quote a fixed total, per acre, or by equipment time with a minimum. Ask about mobilization, minimum charges, repeated passes, trimming, and disposal. The calculator models a simple per-acre offer; it cannot estimate machine hours from acreage alone.
Illustrative arithmetic
For a hypothetical five-acre parcel with one acre excluded, four acres remain. At an example rate of $100 per mowable acre plus $150 per visit for mobilization, one visit totals $550 before any reserve. Six identical visits would total $3,300. These are editable examples, not Nashville price evidence; the first cut may cost differently.
What to send with a request
Provide a map, growth photos, gate width, time since the last cut, known hazards, and the target finish. Note if you need hauling. The preparation checklist helps avoid an estimate that assumes a clear site when it is not.
For example, a five-acre parcel with one acre of woods, water, structures, and other exclusions leaves four acres to include in the mowing estimate.
Plan with your own numbers
Mowable acreage and visit budget
Use it to get a general idea of your budget. Enter measurements and your quoted rates, or load an example to see how the calculation works. Example figures are illustrative, not local price averages.
Subtract woods, buildings, water, protected areas, and other exclusions. This model assumes the same scope and price on every visit; price an initial cleanup separately if it differs.
Entered scope + reserve
Only the entered scope is counted. Check preparation, repairs, removal, tax, permits, access, disposal, and handoff costs with the provider. A reserve is a planning choice, not a forecast of extra charges.
The mowing operator will assess access, ground conditions and what the equipment can cut before agreeing to the work. About this site.
